Yearly Report 2008
Friday 12th December, 2008

"

We have now been going 3 days just short of 2 years which is a good achievement by all and hope that we continue to grow. We are slightly down on attendance from last year but we are still strong enough to carry on. We have had 5 new members, Alan Cromack, Pete Smith, John Phillips, Austin Wheeler, Nick Barber. I hope that you are enjoying your time with us and found the group beneficial to you. We have also seen various support from friends, Tom Ward, Shirley Bacon, Garry Matthews, Ken & Margaret Baker and Roger Fenerley. Many Thanks.

We have had a good year for Speakers like Steven Bath (WW1), Jim Shortland (Dambusters), Ian Graham (Military Career) and Fred Panton (Life at East Kirkby) who have given up their time to come and entertain us on their specialist subjects.

We have also had a good year as a group attending various events starting with our crankup at RAF Digby Operations room (March), RAF Digby’s 90th celebrations (March), BBMF Visit (April), East Kirkby Celebrations (May), BBMF open day (September) but to name a few. We are now establishing a good rapor with the local RAF stations like Coningsby who have given us a permanent place at their Lincolnshire Lancaster Association day and Waddington for their Big Airshow day in July.

We have a good relation with our neighbouring group the Trent Valley MVT where we try and support each other, the main occasion being the 3 Saturdays collecting for the poppy appeal in Newark market place. The middle Saturday was made up of our group bar one and he left early, so the takings of £333.43p was done by us. The total takings over the 3 days was £1350.17p, slightly up on last years £1200. Geoff Meakin would like to thank all those that took part for their efforts in raising this amount.

We have also as a group raised £333.53p which is made up of  £103.33p RBL, Raffle money £170, Clothing sales £40.60p, odds & sods £19.60p

Well done everybody

The forth coming year looks promising and will also be a very challenging one. As some of you know, we are holding our own event next August bank holiday. There is plenty to do to achieve a good show and hopefully carry it on for many a year. We have a good committee made up of some group members and outsiders, for which I thank you, that I know we can do this. Everyone can play their part by helping raise money, large or small amounts, it all counts, by selling raffle tickets, dance tickets  or organising events to raise money etc. It will be hard work nearer the time and we shall need all hands to the pumps over the 2-3 days to help make it go smoothly. I hope I can count on your full support as and when needed.

So as you can see, for a little MVT Area we have done and achieved so much and I hope that we can continue to do so.

Fiona and myself would like to wish you all a happy Christmas and a happy new year.
